As per a report on Artificial Intelligence Market by Grand View Research, the global artificial intelligence market size was valued at USD 93.5 billion in 2021 and is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38.1% from 2022 to 2030. With the recent strides in Generative AI to create new content, ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. Yet there are daily reports of AI harm. Ned Hayes is the CEO of the AI-powered retail software company SnowShoe.io. Software and hardware developed by SnowShoe has registered over 25 million check-in events and is currently used by millions of shoppers nationwide. Ned Hayes has over 20 years of experience in the research and application of machine learning to a variety of complex problems, including context-aware learning systems, robotics, drones, communications modeling, multi-objective optimization and decision-making under uncertainty. He has developed solutions for a diverse range of consumer and industrial applications. Ned Hayes is deeply interested in deep generative machine learning approaches for human-to-human communication, including disability enablement, cross-cultural communication, and narrative text. He holds patents in a variety of domains. He serves on the Oregon Organized Retail Crime Task Force with Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum. Prior to his leadership of SnowShoe.io, Ned Hayes was a Senior Director at Intel, where his work included contributions to the Open VINO Computer Vision system and leadership of the Intel Context Sensing team. The OpenVINO was named Product of the Year by the Embedded Vision Forum and the Dell Express Sign-In with Intel Context SDK won the annual Innovation Award, given by CES. He also served in senior product roles at Xerox PARC and at Vulcan, working directly with Paul Allen on AI and machine learning for communication analysis. He has studied business innovation, philosophy and ethical approaches to AI at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and UC Berkeley Graduate Theological Institute. He is a Business Mentor, Board Member, and Startup Advisor for companies such as TeleSign, Commit Change, Bluecadia, and OlyWorks.He is a bestselling author and his forthcoming book is Ethics in AI: A Programmer’s Primer.
