Summit Chairs


Dr. Peter Hsieh

Dr. Peter Hsieh is a distinguished technology visionary, serial entrepreneur, and strategic investor with over four decades of transformative contributions to the global semiconductor, computing, and energy industries. He is currently Chief Strategy Officer at Alpha Ring International, spearheading the company’s initiatives in next-generation nuclear fusion and sustainable energy investments.

Dr. Hsieh began his career at IBM’s Watson Research Center, where he was instrumental in the development of the world’s first single-chip CMOS RISC microprocessor under the legendary Dr. John Cocke. A Silicon Valley pioneer, he went on to co-found several groundbreaking startups—including the first fabless IC chipset design firm—and was honored with the prestigious “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in 1990. His ventures have successfully navigated the full innovation-to-exit cycle, with multiple IPOs and acquisitions on global capital markets.

As former President of Arm Taiwan and Vice President of Innovation and Investment at Arm, he established Arm’s first Asia Design Center and led strategic alliances across automotive, healthcare, AIoT, and cloud infrastructure sectors. He also played a key role in corporate venture investments and ecosystem development throughout Asia.

Dr. Hsieh holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a B.S. from UC Berkeley. He completed executive MBA studies at Harvard Business School.

 


Jane Wu

Chair, Industry Alliances
Managing Partner, BRI Capital

Jane Wu is a distinguished figure in the spheres of technology and venture capital, with an illustrious career spanning over three decades. Her vast expertise encompasses marketing, sales, business development, and venture investments, particularly within the semiconductor and solar industries. As Founding Partner and  Managing Director at BRI Capital since 2017, she has been instrumental in steering the firm’s strategic direction.

Her accomplishments prior to BRI Capital are notable. As a corporate executive, she successfully led the IPOs of three companies across the U.S., Hong Kong, and China stock markets. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she founded IPP Global, a firm dedicated to renewable and Waste-to-Energy projects. In her tenure as President of Global Operations at Comtec Solar, Jane played a pivotal role in navigating the company through a successful IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange during a tumultuous economic climate in 2009, thanks to her adeptness in market strategies, branding, and business model innovation.

Her tenure at TD Growth Capital further highlights her prowess in guiding cleantech sector companies through strategic planning and identifying optimal exit strategies. Her strategic acumen was also evident in her President role at JA Solar, where she forged vital global alliances and spearheaded the company’s marketing and supplier chain strategies. Her industry experience is further enriched by her 11-year tenure at Applied Materials, where she held various technical and managerial positions, and her initial foray into device process engineering at Rockwell Semiconductor.

Jane’s entrepreneurial journey includes co-founding CiWest Corporation, which successfully merged with a major semiconductor foundry. Her academic foundation is as impressive as her professional journey, with a degree in Physics from the prestigious California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Her extensive experience and dynamic leadership have consistently generated innovative strategies and growth, marking her as a transformative leader in her field.


Chuck Ng

Investor and Co-Founder, World Leading Scientists Institute (WLSI)

Chuck Ng is an entrepreneur, tech investor and community leader. He has invested in multiple tech companies including unicorns like Databricks, Ironclad, Mammoth Biosciences, Polyhedra Network. Aside from his professional work, Chuck has a keen interest in entrepreneurship, innovation and advancing equity/inclusion in higher education. He has been a leader at UC Berkeley, INSEAD, Tsinghua University and Asia Society. Chuck cofounded the World Leading Scientists Institute (WLSI) with a number of thought leaders including Nobel & Turing Laureates. The mission of WLSI focuses on mentorship of young scientists and global collaborations. Additionally Chuck also cohosted the White House Higher Education Summit at UC Berkeley to promote equity and inclusion in higher education. In recognition of his leadership, Chuck was awarded UC Berkeley Bradford King Young Alumnus of the Year, Asia Society Asia 21 Young Leaders Fellow, the PayPalian Award etc. Chuck is a UC Berkeley graduate with dual MBA from Tsinghua University and INSEAD.

H.-S. Philip Wong

Willard R. and Inez Kerr Bell Professor, Stanford University
Chief Scientist, TSMC

Professor H.-S. Philip Wong is the Willard R. and Inez Kerr Bell Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. His groundbreaking work in nanoscale science and technology, semiconductor devices, and electronic imaging has had a significant impact on the semiconductor industry. Notably, he served as the Vice President of Corporate Research at TSMC from 2018 to 2020 and continues to contribute as their Chief Scientist in a consulting and advisory capacity. Professor Wong’s current research, focusing on emerging areas like carbon electronics, 2D layered materials, and brain-inspired computing, directly addresses the future demands of Artificial Intelligence. His exploration of novel computing paradigms through initiatives like N3XT and MOSAIC aims to overcome the limitations of traditional architectures, paving the way for more energy-efficient and powerful AI systems. As the director of the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility and a leader in major research centers, Professor Wong is at the forefront of developing the foundational technologies that will drive the next generation of AI.


Rodrigo Liang

Co-Founder & CEO, SambaNova Systems

Rodrigo Liang is the visionary co-founder and CEO of SambaNova Systems, a company revolutionizing enterprise AI with its full-stack, next-generation computing platform. Prior to founding SambaNova in 2017, Liang led SPARC Processor and ASIC development at Oracle as Senior Vice President, and previously held engineering leadership roles at Sun Microsystems and HP. A Stanford-educated electrical engineer, he has been instrumental in advancing high-performance computing architectures, including the development of the world’s first multi-core processors. Under his leadership, SambaNova has become a global leader in AI infrastructure, democratizing access to cutting-edge AI capabilities for enterprises worldwide.

Dr. John Y. Chen

Corporate Vice President of Technology and Foundry Management at NVIDIA Corporation

John Y. Chen has been the Corporate Vice Presidentof Technology and Foundry Management at NVIDIA Corporation since 2004. Prior to that, Dr. Chen spent 10 years at TSMC.  He created and ran the R&D at TSMC, Taiwan. Subsequently, he built and ran fab operations of WaferTech in Camas, WA, then served as the Vice President of Business Development in the last year at WaferTech.

 Earlier in his career at Hughes Research Lab and Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, he has contributed more than 100 refereed journal articles, mostpublished by IEEE. He has been invited to give numerous speeches including the plenary speeches in 1996 IEDM and 2009 IEDM, and luncheon speech in 2018 IEDM and a plenary speech in IEEE 2025 VLSI Symposium. He wrote a textbook on “CMOS Devices and Technology for VLSI,” published by Prentice Hall, a part of Simon & Schuster today. He was elected to the IEEE Fellow in 1992 for “leadership in and contributions to CMOS device and process technology”.  

In the 80’s, he has served on the Technical Advisory Board of ITRI/ERSO, the incubator of Taiwan semiconductor industry including TSMC. In 2001, he became the board director of Cascade Inc. (Nasdaq:CSCD) for six years until the company was acquired by FormFactor (Nasdaq:FORM). His recent book on “Leadership in Management” was published by Nova Science Publishers, N.Y. in 2022.

Dr. Chen holds a B.S. in E.E. from National Taiwan University, an M.S. in E.E. from University of Maine, a Ph.D. in E.E. from UCLA, and a master’s degree from the UCLA Executive Management Program.


Ya Xu

Vice President of Research, Google DeepMind

Ya Xu is a leading AI expert who currently serves as VP of Research at Google DeepMind, where she focuses on developing cutting-edge Generative AI models with the goal of achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).  Her impressive career includes leading AI efforts at LinkedIn, where she oversaw AI product development and research as Head of Data & AI.

Ya’s expertise is widely recognized. She co-authored the influential book “Trustworthy Online Controlled Experiments” and was named to Fortune’s 40 under 40 in tech.  A sought-after speaker, she has delivered numerous impactful talks, including a commencement speech to Stanford’s Class of 2019 in Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematical & Computational Science. Yaholds a PhD in Statistical Machine Learning from Stanford.


Michael Stewart

Managing Partner, M12 (Microsoft’s Venture Fund)

Michael Stewart is a Managing Partner at M12, Microsoft’s venture fund, where he leads investments in AI, deep tech, and the future of compute. He began his investing career at Applied Ventures, focusing on AI/ML hardware and software, silicon photonics, and high-precision robotics. With a background that includes advanced technology development at Applied Materials and Intel Research, Stewart brings a wealth of experience to his investment strategies. He holds a Ph.D. and MBA, and is recognized for his contributions to the venture capital landscape.


Dr. Li Deng

 

Chief AI Officer, Vatic Investments

Dr. Li Deng is the Chief AI Officer and Global Head of Machine Learning at Vatic Investments. A globally recognized expert in AI, speech technology, and machine learning, Dr. Deng previously served as Chief AI Officer at Citadel and as Chief Scientist of AI at Microsoft, where he founded the Deep Learning Technology Center. He has held academic positions at the University of Waterloo, MIT, and the University of Washington. Dr. Deng is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Acoustical Society of America, and the ISCA, and has been honored with numerous awards for his pioneering work in deep learning and speech recognition.


Lily Zhang

Vice President of Engineering, Instacart

Lily Zhang is the Vice President of Engineering at Instacart, where she leads engineering teams focused on enhancing the fulfillment experience. She previously served as Head of Engineering at Caper.ai, an intelligent shopping cart company acquired by Instacart for $300 million in 2021. Zhang’s expertise spans social media, e-commerce, and marketplaces, with prior roles at Amazon and Meta. She is also a co-founder and CEO of MatchA Angels, a premier tech angel community, and co-chairs the Silicon Valley Leadership Community.
